Brian Grantham Obituary (1966 - 2025)

(Levy) Brian Grantham, age 59, passed away on November 30, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, after a two-year battle with ALS. During the final months of his fight with this devastating disease, Brian demonstrated extraordinary courage and grace. He never grew angry at the illness that was robbing him of so much. Instead, he remained hopeful—constantly researching new studies, emerging treatments, and any possible breakthrough that might offer a path toward a cure. His determination, optimism, and refusal to sink into despair were reflections of the man he was: strong, thoughtful, and deeply committed to his family. Brian leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kathleen “Kate” Grantham; his son, Kevin; and his daughter, Sarah. He also leaves behind his brother, Steve Smith (Kathie), and his sister, Marcy Amerson (Bob). Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Levy J. Grantham and Joyce L. Grantham. His memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends. Brian was an aviation enthusiast through and through—a private pilot who found joy in every moment spent around airplanes and who fulfilled a longtime dream by attending the Oshkosh “AirVenture” week-long airshow. He was also a lifelong lover of technology. During his more than 20 years in the IT field, Brian worked for several companies, consistently strengthening and improving their technology infrastructure. His colleagues knew him as someone who made a meaningful impact wherever he went, always offering solutions, stability, humor, and a calm presence. Remarkably, Brian continued working long past the point most ALS patients can, driven by his deep desire to keep providing for the people he loved. His courage, dedication to his family, and the quiet way he faced an unimaginable diagnosis will never be forgotten. Above all else, Brian was a devoted husband and father. He cherished his son Kevin and took immense pride in his achievements, especially Kevin’s own passion for aviation. Brian encouraged Kevin’s dreams, supported his education at the Florida Institute of Technology, and celebrated every milestone along the way. He was equally devoted to his daughter Sarah, who was born with complex medical and developmental needs, and he ensured she always felt loved, safe, and supported. A celebration of Brian’s life will be held on January 8, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church of Tampa at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
