HUDSON, Charles Barry, 87, of Tampa, died on December 31 2022
Charles was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1935 to George and Hilda Hudson. It was in his home state that he received his education at the University of Pennsylvania and it was there that he joined the rowing crew team of 1955. The team won the international Henley Regatta cup for the United States of America. He later graduated from the Wharton School of Finance with his bachelor’s degree. While Charles was attending university, he was also serving his country in the army reserves.
Later, to further serve his country, Mr. Hudson enlisted into the United States Navy Aviation and attended Pensacola Aviation for training. Later, he earned his wings in 1957 and was told he'd be subject to active recall and in 1960 he was called back to train on a Sky Raider which would do low ground coverage missions. Charles flew off of two different carriers and was shot down twice but was able to get to safety. Eventually, Mr. Hudson left the Navy with an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant Commander. From there he went to Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and worked as a Regional Sales Manager and remained there for 25 years until he retired.
Charles enjoyed flying and owned a land and sea plane which he chartered for many trips. He was also an avid reader of history and fiction.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Hudson, son, Stephen Schultz and (Heidi) and grandchildren, Keagen and Ryah Schultz, and daughter, Susan Wilhelm (Robert) and grandchildren, Michael, Jimmy and Patrick, daughter, Diane Aldridge (Skip) and grandchildren Barbara, Jack and Lee and brother George Hudson of Lakeland.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be conducted February 8, 1PM at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, 3723 W Bay to Bay Blvd, Tampa, FL 33629.
