Daniel C. Horton

 Daniel “Dan” Horton, 73, left us on March 28, 2023—much too soon! He spent his whole life helping people through many organizations: International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, housing relief coalition after Hurricane Andrew, executive director of Samuel Or Olom, Youth Crime Watch, Homeless Council of Marion County, Outreach Autism Services
Network and Temple Beth Shalom. He never gave up fighting for people. He was born in Chicago but his family moved to Miami when he was two. He lived in Miami most of his life but moved to Ocala 11 years ago. Regretting that he left college when his father had a heart attack, he went back to school while working full time and earned his Bachelor’s
Degree when he when he was 60.

Dan was a Civil War and WW2 buff. He loved traveling; enjoying the pool and beach, and going to art museums and art shows. But, mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he dearly loved. He was married to his best friend, Lisa Rubin-Horton, for 46 years.  In addition to Lisa, he is survived by his daughter Robin Horton Silverman; son-in-law Alex
Silverman; grandsons Samuel, Asher and Elijah; brothers Kenneth and Richard; and brother and sister-law, Stan and Ana Rubin.

 He was a TERRIFIC husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was greatly loved and will be missed terribly! His funeral will be graveside this Friday, March 31st, at 1 pm at New Rodeph Shalom Cemetery, 4210 N 56th ST, Tampa 33610.  Shiva will be observed at a later date in Ocala. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dan’s memory to Hospice of Marion County.
