Dr. Robert Rubin

Dr.Robert J. Rubin, PhD., age 83 of Sun City Center, formerly of Baltimore, Maryland Passed away on December 9, 2016 at home, surrounded by family. He was born in Boston, MA on March 25, 1932 to Ruth and Edward Rubin. Graduated University of Massachusetts in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science. Graduated Boston University with a Masters and PhD. in Pharmacology. Performed his post-Doctoral work at Yale University and worked at University of Kansas medical school for a brief period and then began working at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD in 1964.   He became a Full Professor in this capacity and retired in 2000. He married the late Frances (Cookie) Stone in 1954 in Boston, MA.   They had 3 children:  Ellen Joyce (1957) (Jeff Loughrey), Howard Scott (1960) (Kim Paul), and Steven Glen (1966) (Paula Sies).  He was predeceased by his wife in 1981.  In 1983 he married Idalea Kofsky.
Professional Accomplishments:
Started the Department of Environmental Toxicology at Johns Hopkins University in 1964.
Taught students throughout the world.
Many prestigious awards, too numerous to mention.



In 2001 he retired and moved to Sun City Center, FL
President of the Rotary Club of Sun City Center and chaired the Youth Services scholarship committee
Co-president of Beth Israel Congregation of Sun City Center
A founding member of the Sun City Center Democratic Club
Active resident of Freedom Plaza at Sun City Center, and served on the scholarship committee.


Funeral will take place on Monday, December 12, 2pm at the Sol Levinson Funeral Home in Baltimore, Maryland.  Interment will occur immediately afterwards at Baltimore Hebrew Cemetery in Reisterstown, MD.  Shiva will be observed Monday and Tuesday at 11920 Whispering Oak Court, Reisterstown, MD 21136.  Shiva will continue Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm at Beth Israel Congregation of Sun City Center, Florida.
Dr. Rubin is survived by his wife, Idalea, and their children, Ellen Rubin, Howard Rubin, Steven Rubin, David Wolfe (Monika), Jennifer Wolfe, Aaron Wolfe, 11 grandchildren, Heather (Aalecc McMullen), Corinne, Alex, Max, Alexis, David, Jackson, Natalia, Jakob, Olivia, Ben, 1 great grandchild, Asher, and his brother Alan.  His beloved dogs Sophie and Star will miss him dearly.
