Gemma Snider (née Clohisy), age 73, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in Tampa, Florida. Born on July 2, 1952, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Gemma lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering love for her family, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone she met.
A devoted Catholic throughout her life, Gemma's faith was the cornerstone of her daily living. She prayed the rosary every day and dedicated herself to serving her church community in numerous ways. She was a Eucharistic minister, taught Sunday school, led prayer groups, and guided the Catholic youth group with compassion and commitment. Her spiritual leadership left a lasting impact on many lives.
Gemma found immense joy in spending time with her family. Her love extended across generations and was felt deeply by those closest to her. She is survived by her beloved husband Michael Snider; her daughter Lisa Bay and son-in- law David Bay and their son Christopher; her daughter Kelly Matysik and son-in-law Eddie Matysik and their daughters Cloe and Katie; her son David Snider and daughter-in-law Jackie and their daughters Lauren and Dylan; and her son Richard Snider and daughter-in-law Larissa and their daughter Sabrina. She also leaves behind her brothers Michael Clohisy and his wife Colleen, and Richard Clohisy.
Gemma was predeceased by her father Michael Clohisy, mother Mary E. (Roche) Clohisy, and beloved aunt Virginia R. Roche. Beyond her devotion to faith and family, Gemma had a vibrant personality that brought laughter and warmth into every room she entered. She had a sharp wit and loved playing practical jokes-her sense of humor was one of the many ways she connected with others. In quieter moments, she enjoyed painting, immersing herself in true crime books, or attending the theater-each activity reflecting a different facet of her curious mind and creative soul.
Her legacy is one of love, laughter, service, and strength. She was a loving wife, caring mother, devoted grandmother-affectionately known as "Grammy"-and a cherished friend to many. Those who knew Gemma will remember not only how deeply she cared but also how fully she lived.
May Gemma's memory bring comfort to all who knew her and may her spirit continue to inspire acts of kindness, faithfulness, and joy. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Patricks Catholic Church 4518 S Manhattan Ave. Reception following after mass in the church hall.
