Tampa

Gerry was born in Cape Town, South Africa to Max Leopold and Ilse Flaxman. They left the hardship of South Africa for a better life in the states when he was 9 years old. They ended up residing in Jacksonville, Florida, where Gerry graduated from Landon High School. After high school, Gerry enlisted in the US Army, where he served at a base in San Francisco. He was honorably discharged after 3 years of service. He then moved back to Florida to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he graduated with a degree in business.

Soon after graduation, Gerry was hired as Vice President at Thompson Cigar company in Tampa. Shortly after his start, he met his future wife Nina Fagan through mutual friends. They were married shortly after in 1969. Their daughters Elisabeth and Stephani were born soon after. They had a wonderful life and traveled quite a bit. Gerry was an avid fisherman and poker player, gifts he taught to his beloved daughters.

Gerry is survived by his wife Nina, daughters Liz Perdigon and Stephani Deitch, grandchildren Olivia and Spencer Perdigon and Hayden and Fisher Deitch, and sons-in-law Rob Perdigon and Andrew Deitch.
