Hewitt Lawrence Rubel, 85, of Manhattan and Tampa, FL, passed away on October 18, 2016 after a long illness at his home in Tampa. Born April 6, 1931, in New York, Hewitt attended the Horace Mann School, New York University and New York University School of Law. He was a senior partner at the law firm of Maggin & Swan. Hewitt is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Elaine Sokol Rubel; children David Rubel (Julia) and Erika Rubel (Thomas Bucci), stepchildren Steven Weissman (Rande), Philip Weissman (Meryl), Joe Weissman (Vicki), Gary Weissman (Laura Micciche), and grandchildren Abigail and Quentin Rubel; and Jenny, Emily, Sierra, Eli, Allison, Amanda, Ava, Giovanni and Lou Weissman; sisters Rujeanne Bleemer and Syril Berger (Ivan) and many friends and relatives. Hewitt's great passions were traveling and learning about the world and reading the New York Times from cover to cover.
