Irving Goldstein

Irving Goldstein, 92, passed away Sunday, February 22. He is survived by his wife, Winnifred, his son Bruce (Barbara) and daughter Marilyn (Craig), stepson Carl, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Goldstein was a graduate of Columbia University and served in the medical corps in North Africa and Italy in WWII. He was the president of the Charron-Williams colleges, vocational-technical schools located in Florida and Ohio from the late 1940s until his retirement in the 1980s. Throughout his career and especially following his retirement, he set the example for his children and grandchildren with his volunteerism, serving on the Board of the Visiting Nurses Assn., reading for the blind, and consulting for SCORE as an advisor to small business operators. Most notably, he served as a Guardian ad Litem in both Miami and Tampa, retiring from GAL in 1990 as the oldest guardian in the state. Private graveside services on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., at Gan Shalom Cemetery, Rabbi Richard Birnholz officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Voices for Children (655 N. Franklin, Suite 1300, Tampa 33602 or Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3301 West Swann Avenue, Tampa 33609.
