Jack Sandler

Dr. Jack Sandler, 78, of Tampa, Florida passed away Saturday, January 19, 2008. "Our Firecracker," was born on July 4, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA. He was formerly of Atlantic City, NJ and Miami, FL, until joining the faculty of the University of South Florida in 1969, staying on for 38 years as a Full Professor. In 1994, he retired and took the title Professor Emeritus.

During his lifetime Dr. Sandler achieved many accomplishments. As a member of the Psychology Department he played an integral role in the development of a renowned graduate program and the development of numerous educational programs that positively impacted the lives of many members of the community. He also mentored many students in the psychological community. Dr. Sandler was a member of the Florida Peer Review Committee, the Florida Case Review Committee, and a founding member of the Florida Association of Behavior Analysis. He was an expert in the field of Behavior Modification, Psychopathology, and Parent Education. Dr. Sandler wrote numerous books, both academic and fiction, and was well-known for editing and contributing to scientific journals. His latest works included the collaboration of a video, "The Genocide Factor," which was introduced to the world through PBS, and the History Channel. He also taught Seminars on Genocide in the Honors College at USF.

Dr. Sandler leaves behind a loving wife Bobbie and sons, Jeffrey (Deborah), Eric (Marjorie) and Alan (Susan). He will be missed by his 7 grandchildren who loved him dearly as "Poppa Jack," and by his nieces Adele and Elaine and their families. He was also an active member of the Democratic Party in Hillsborough County. The family would like to thank the Moffitt Cancer Center and the Lifepath Hospice House for all their dedication. Graveside Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am, at Beth Israel Cemetery.
