He was born to Joyce and James on Dec. 11, 1968. James preceded his son Mike during a tour of duty during the Viet Nam War in 1970. Joyce also preceded her son in February of 2005. Mike was a well-known and highly respected Sensei in the martial arts community all across Florida. He has been an active student - instructor of mixed martial arts for over 20 years. He has had hundreds of students over the years but he's had three exceptional students, his sons who survive him: James Shane (Rose Braxton) of Zephyrhills, Scott (Amanda) of Fort Polk, LA, and Jason Thomas of Zephyrhills. Mike saw his sons as his greatest accomplishments. Mike is also survived by the mother of his children, Karrie Delmont (Schofield); his sisters Jimi (Kenny) Bell and Christina, both of Tampa; his step-father George Jacobs of North Carolina; his fiancAC. Kathy Willis of Tampa along with her children Zachary and Kaitlin Killion and Nikolas Musso, all of whom resided with Mike in Tampa; a nephew Joshua Bell of Tampa; his grandson James Cameron of Zephyrhills; and special friends Janet Cloud of Tampa, The Geotzke family of Tampa, Adamo Zappe of Detroit of whom he still called his brother; and his dogs Chopper, Tasha, and Jack, all of which he treated just like his children. Mike enjoyed so many things in life, hunting, motorcycles, cars, the UFC, the beach, hanging by the pool, or spending a Sunday with his grandson James Cameron. With his varied interests Mike has met a lot of people along the way, many that he called friends. Friends may join the family as they celebrate Mike's life on Friday, May 23 from 2 to4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Brewer Funeral Home, 7701 West Hillsborough Avenue, Tampa, where funeral services will take place on Saturday, May 24 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends and other family at the Clubhouse of Countryside Village on Sheldon Road immediately following the service.
