Kay H. Barrick, born July 15, 1943, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Betty L. Donaldson and Hoyette S. Hudson, passed away peacefully in Tampa, Florida, on August 2, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Douglas Barrick; her former husbands, Ronald Baker and James Lowe; and her siblings, Vivian Hudson and Scott Hudson. Kay is survived by her beloved daughter, Brenda Baker; sister, Patty Riddle; and brother, Lester Hudson. She is also survived by close, longtime friends Frank and Ellen Savoie and Claire Parks.
Born in Charlotte, Kay moved with her family to Orlando, Florida, as a young girl. She attended Boone High School and earned a degree in education from the University of Florida. Throughout her life, Kay embraced many roles including wife, mother, school teacher, caterer, property manager, and workers’ compensation claim adjuster.
Kay was a deeply supportive mother and cherished friend, remembered for her warm, loving nature and quick wit. Her keen intelligence and lively, spirited personality made her a vibrant presence in every room she entered. Always approachable and friendly, Kay had a remarkable gift for uplifting those around her. She found great joy in entertaining loved ones, treasured her trips to the beach and mountains, and had a passion for uncovering unique treasures. Above all, Kay possessed a rare talent for recognizing the potential in both people and things, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Kay touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Kay’s memory.
