Miriam Rebecca Shanker 91 OF Tampa passed away peacefully May 5, 2016. She was married for 66 years to Melvin Shanker. Wife, mother, grandmother, aunt - her two children, Bruce and Rhona - were devoted to her as was her daughter-in-law Linda and her granddaughter Erin. She was adored as an aunt, cousin, friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed. Born in Wilmington Delaware to Bessie Yampolsky Golodner and Joseph D.S. Goldberg, She lived in Washington DC, Sun City, AZ, and finally Tampa, FL. She was loved by her three siblings Leah-(deceased), Seymour (Sony)-(deceased) and Sylvia Platt and their children plus the rest of her extended Yampolsky family. She was an extensive traveler, loved to play bridge, usher at the theatre and keep up with family and friends. Her love of life was only matched by her passion for watching the news, HGTV, and the Food Network. Miriam will be missed for her honesty, humor, sharp wit and her uncontrollable desire to give directions. Donations may be made in Miriam's name to local theatres in Tampa, FL, Washington DC, and Phoenix, AZ and the Southern Poverty Law Center. Private services will be held.
