MICK, MITCHELL C., 94, of Tampa, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2024. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Helga, brothers, Walter and M. F. “Bunny” Mick, daughter, Susy Warren. Survivors include his son Tom (Martha) Mick, of Tampa; daughter Heidi (Mike) Baird, of San Antonio, TX, and son-in-law Jack Warren, of Dallas, TX; 13 grandchildren (and 13 great grandchildren).

Mitchell was a native of south Tampa and attended Gorrie school, Wilson Junior High, Plant High, Florida Southern College and the University of Tampa. He served with the U.S. Army Special Services, Sports Section, in Austria and was honorably discharged. He was at Yankee Stadium on October 8, 1956, when Don Larsen pitched the only perfect game in World Series history. Soon after, he started a 33-year career in professional baseball's 'Front Office' with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox organizations. He was owner and president of the Tampa Tarpons and Sr. V.P. of the Florida State League.

Mitchell also had an overlapping career in radio for 45 years. He did play-by-play of University of Tampa Spartans football and basketball, as well as the 'Game of the Week' in high school sports. He was founder and sportscaster of International Sports radio network, broadcasting major college football and bowl games, NCAA national championships and amateur sports world series. The A.S.A. awarded him five times as Radio-TV national broadcaster of the year.

Mitchell was a volunteer manager of boys and girls Little League teams for 25 years. His Tampa Bay LL All-Stars won the Softball World Series in 1986 and again in 1987.

He was a world traveler, literally, one of his trips he went around the world. He visited all 50 states and all 7 continents. On his 80th birthday he traveled to Antarctica.

In 2018 Mitchell was the 200th inductee into the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame.

He was a member of Bayside Community Church in south Tampa.

A graveside service with full military honors was held at Florida National Cemetery on Tuesday, 8/13, 1:30 PM. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 1:30 PM at Bayside Community Church, 3333 Bayshore Blvd in Tampa. 

If you cannot make it to the service in person, it will be live-streamed.
