Patrick James McNulty

Patrick “Pat” James McNulty, 82, of Tampa, FL, died peacefully on January 16, 2022. Born in Meriden, CT, on July 31, 1939 he spent his formative years growing up in Wallingford, CT where he proudly attended the Holy Trinity School and The Choate School. He was the son of the late Patrick Julius McNulty and Theresa (Healy). He was also predeceased by his brother, Gerald McNulty, sister, Patricia (McNulty) Barry, brother in-law, Robert F. Barry Sr., and nephews, Robert F. Barry Jr., Thomas P. McNulty & Gary J. McNulty.
Pat was an accomplished student and graduated from Tufts University with a degree in Psychology, where he was also a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He joined the US Army after graduation and served in Fort Bliss, TX from 1961-63. After the army he eventually settled in West Hartford, CT and married Natalie J. (McKone). He spent a life long career in the Insurance industry;  Aetna, The Travelers and eventually Mutual of America (formerly, National Health & Welfare) to which he retired from.
He moved to New York in 1975 continuing a prosperous career at Mutual of America allowing him opportunities that moved him around the country from Providence, RI, to St. Louis , MO, Cincinnati, OH, Rochester, NY and eventually settling full-time in Tampa, FL in 1993 through to his retirement.
Pat was never one to sit still or let his mind go to waste. Soon after he ‘retired,’ he took on a part-time job and second career with Measurement Incorporated reviewing National High School exams and grading term papers. He was a voracious reader, enjoying anything from mysteries to history to politics. He loved crossword puzzles and prided himself on accomplishing any NY Times Saturday Crossword puzzle. He was fascinated with the world and languages, teaching himself to speak Japanese, French, German and Gaelic, as he was already accomplished in Spanish. He loved traveling internationally and domestically, especially with friends and family, but his favorite past-time and social pleasure was with the St. Petersburg Bicycle Club, where he served as President and also various volunteer positions. “The Club” was his second family with whom he spent many holidays and special occasions. He cherished every friendship he made very deeply.
Family was the center of his life. His children, son-in-law, and grandsons were an unwavering source of delight, and his true pride and joy. All who knew Pat will sorely miss his kindness, playful sense of humor, political banter, and the fact that he never held a grudge no matter who's opinion.
Pat’s memory will live on through his children, Patrick R. McNulty of Hartford CT, and Siobhan M. Rowe along with her husband Campbell of Concord, MA and grandsons Evan and Brendan, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for a memorial service and burial at a later date in the Spring 2022 in Wallingford, CT.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
