Ronald Edward Haebig, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on June 9, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, at 77 years of age.
Ron was born on April 13, 1948, in Marshfield, Wisconsin. His parents, Clarence and Irene (Eberhardy) Haebig, settled in Wausau and built a close-knit and hard-working family. The third of eleven children, Ron grew up working hard alongside his father selling cars.
In 1967, he graduated from Wausau Senior High School. Drafted by the U.S. Marine Corps the following year, Ron went on to serve in the Vietnam War.
He returned to the United States a proud veteran and moved to Tampa, Florida. There, Ron found a tight circle of lifelong friends and began his 28-year career in the plumbing supply business, eventually rising in the ranks to become a manager.
He became a father in 1983 when his daughter, Kerri Lynn Haebig, entered the world. In 1990, he married Noreen Durkin, the love of his life. Later that same year, Ron fulfilled a longtime dream of running the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C.
He retired in 2010.
After retirement, Ron and Noreen enjoyed fifteen years of visiting loved ones everywhere from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin, Boston to Denver. They also traveled the world, exploring Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Normandy Beach in France, Mexico, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Bermuda, and several Caribbean islands.
More than anything, Ron enjoyed entertaining friends and family over barbecue and beer at his home in Lutz. Most mornings and afternoons, he held court in his garage with neighbors, sharing funny stories as well as his time and tools with anyone who needed them.
He even organized those same neighbors to help clean up their lake, making dozens of new friends in the process.
Ron loved fishing and playing online solitaire. He served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the American Legion. Ron also volunteered at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church carnivals, parties, and ground cleanup events.
But his favorite spot was sitting out back by his pool and looking out over his flowers, trees, bird feeders, and his renewed and beautiful lake with Noreen by his side.
Ron was a devoted grandfather, spending countless hours teaching his grandchildren how to fish, play catch, and making sure they knew how to swim. He never missed their many plays, games, and competitions – always clapping the loudest and cheering them on from the front row.
He was blessed to receive their undying love and support, especially in his final days.
Ron is survived by his daughter Kerri Haebig Arroyo (Ismael Arroyo) and stepchildren Catherine Durkin Robinson (Marc Robinson), Michele Berezniak (Scott Berezniak), and Michael Furey (Chelsie Furey); grandchildren Ariella Serrano; Ismael, Jacob, and Luke Arroyo; Jacob and Zachary Robinson; John, Elizabeth, and Andrew Berezniak; Alexis and Christian Furey; sisters Mary, Gail, and Ellen; brothers Ken, Edward, Thomas, Gerard, Kurt, Charles; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Diane.
The family thanks Moffitt Cancer Center, LifePath Hospice and Segal Funeral Home for their loving care and service.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11 am at Most Holy Redeemer Parish, 10110 N. Central Ave., Tampa. Visitation begins at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Ron’s memory.
