Salomon Pila

Salomon (Sam) Pila, of Tampa, completed his life May 24, 2018.  He was born on July 20, 1925 in Charcznitza, Poland to Kalman and Kresla Pila.  Salomon was the youngest of five sons.  He was interred in concentration camps as a teenager during the Holocaust and, for a time, he was a worker in the Oskar Schindler factory.  He survived the Holocaust and moved to the US in 1952, initially establishing Pila Livestock Company in Stewartville, Minnesota with his brother – Isak (Jack) – and close family friend Moses Reiber.  He met Herta Neuburger in Munich, Germany after the Holocaust and in 1953, they were married in Rochester, Minnesota and raised a family in Stewartville, Minnesota.  In 1975, he moved to Tampa, Florida to assume the reigns of Milk A Way Farms, Inc. in Brooksville, Florida, retiring in 2006.  Salomon is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Herta, their three children Kalman (Ethel), Moritz (Elizabeth) and Harriet, nine grandchildren Matthew (Stacy), Joshua (Jennifer), Benjamin, Rachel (Eric Prochut), Sarah, Stefani (Nathan Kasimer), Orli, Nathaniel and Daphna Shull and three great grandchildren Zachary, Gabriel and Davis Pila. The family would like to send a special Thank You to Ines Margarita Nivar de Moreta and Cerafina Martinez for all their assistance in the past year in providing loving care to him.  Funeral service will be held graveside at the Rodeph Sholom Cemetery (Ola Avenue) at 12:30 PM Friday, May 25.  Shiva services will be held at the Bayshore Diplomat every evening from Saturday, May 26 through Thursday, May 31 at 7:30 PM.  Donations in memory of Salomon can be made to The Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, FL or Congregation Rodeph Sholom in Tampa, FL.
