Samuel Lasky, age 80, formerly of Brooklyn, NY, died at his home in South Tampa, Florida on June 21. Sam was born on February 6, 1933, the oldest of Hy and Sarah Lasky's three children and attended Brooklyn's Boys' High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and served nearly three decades of active duty at the rank of Master SGT. After finishing degrees at the University of Tampa and USF, he began his second career, teaching history at both Jefferson and Robinson High Schools for 18 years.

Sam was a highly respected military leader and a beloved teacher and coach. He possessed a keen intelligence, a generous heart and an intense love of his family. He was also an avid Bucs and Lightening fan. MacDill AFB was Sam's first and last duty station. It was while at MacDill in 1953 he met the love of his life, Gerri Meerovitz, marrying in 1954 and sharing 56 years together as well as five children. Gerri passed away in 2010. Sam was also preceded in death by his two youngest children; son Leslie Lasky and daughter Francine Donoho.

He is survived by three children; Steve Lasky of Alpharetta, Ga., Suzanne Lasky Griffith of Tampa, Fl, and Larry Lasky of Pensacola, Fl; grandchildren; Sarah Griffith, Charles Griffith, Aaren Lasky, Bradley Donoho, Jacob Lasky and Jordan Lasky; daughter-in-laws, Ruthie (Steve) Lasky and Jennifer (Leslie) Lasky; sister, Bea Bodner of Lakeland, Fl, brother, Bernie Lasky and his wife Helena of St. Ives, UK; two great grandchildren, Hunter and Lilly. The funeral service will be held Sunday June 30, 9:30 AM at Segal Funeral Home - Beth David Chapel, 3909 Henderson Boulevard, Tampa, Florida 33629. (813 - 874-3330). Interment will immediately follow at Beth Israel Cemetery at 600 W. Indiana Avenue, Tampa, Florida
