COPPERSMITH, Sanford Ira, a noted Travel and Business Executive who lived in Tampa for over 40 years, died after a brief illness in Tampa on Sunday, March 5. He was 82. A loving husband, father and grandfather who was a kind and gentle man, Sandy loved life. He was a successful life-long salesman who was greatly loved throughout the Tampa community. In his early consulting career in New York, he was a pioneer in the leasing business. He later parlayed that expertise in helping Florida’s Barnett Bank establish its Leasing Corporation. Loving husband of Binnie Coppersmith, the couple ran Travels Unlimited, a well-known travel agency, for over 18 years in South Tampa. He was also Vice President of Sales for Friendly Computer Services for over 13 years. And, he worked at Exchange Bank and Barnett as a senior officer for many years in both Tampa and Miami. In his addition to his wife of 36 years, Sandy is survived by his younger brother, Noel Robert Coppersmith of New York; and his children Randall Scott and Elizabeth May Coppersmith of Middleburg, VA; Robin Ann and C. Alan Miller of Scottsdale, AZ, Henry Newman and his wife Lisa Belvito of St. Paul, Minnesota; and Max Mitchell and Carolina Newman of Tampa, FL. He also had nine grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 3 pm at Congregation Beth Am, 2030 W. Fletcher Avenue, Tampa, FL.
