Susan Kay Burns

Susan Kay Burns (Sue), 63, of Tampa, passed away on September 1, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born on June 10, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to parents Lois and Larry Burns.

Sue loved animals and wildlife of all kinds, especially her beloved pets, Tiny and Lola. She spent much of her time helping strays and volunteering at the Humane Society of Tampa. She also had a green thumb and loved gardening. Planting and caring for her own plants—as well as teaching others how to care for theirs—was her passion.

She is survived by her sisters, Sherry Winters and Edie Burns of Tampa; brother, Jody Albury of Tampa; her daughter, Lisa Lauver; and her grandchildren, Austin and Aydin Warney. She is also survived by her nephews, Shawn and Bryan Winters, Kyle Burns, and countless others who affectionately called her "Aunt Sue."

She was predeceased by her parents, Lois Albury and Larry Burns; her brothers, Rick and Dickie Helton; and her sister, Sandra Helton.

Sue will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will take place at Segal Funeral Home, with family and friends received from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and service starting at 2:00 p.m. on September 20th.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation or the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
