Susan Zucker

Susan Gail Zucker, a vibrant 64, passed away at her home in Temple Terrace surrounded by family on Nov. 27. Susan was born in New York City to Marion Maeder and Alan Zucker, both deceased, and maintained her identity as a New Yorker throughout life. She earned a bachelor's degree from Sarah Lawrence College and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of South Florida.

Susan had a diverse professional life.  She co-owned a successful restaurant in Saugerties, New York. Later, as an educator, she worked in at-risk schools in Tampa. She trained doctors at the USF College of Medicine and lawyers at Holland & Knight, LLP, worked with the National Clearinghouse for Science, Technology and the Law at Stetson College of Law and consulted for numerous international organizations, as well as being passionately politically active.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Alan Balfour, children Cassandra and Jordan Capobianco, son-in-law Alan Dandorf, and grandchildren Gus and Sam Dandorf. She leaves her step-mother Jo Ann Zucker, sister Nancy Breen, many cousins, and dear friends.

A celebration of life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7013 Rivergate Ave., Temple Terrace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Brain Tumor Association (www.abta.org)
