Vergie Banks enjoyed life. She was born January 3, 1929, to John Rickard Lewis and Candis Lewis (nee Perry) in Louisburg, NC. She left North Carolina and moved to Springfield to be closer to family and find work. In Springfield, she married Rudolph Banks in September 1952. Vergie was very social and enjoyed being out of the house, meeting people and working. She worked many jobs and eventually became a licensed barber and opened Vergie's Beauty Salon. Her strong work ethic remained until her late 70s, when she worked as a licensed realtor and elder companion. She was happiest when selling real estate, doing hair, gardening, eating ice cream, and putting miles on her car. She peacefully passed away at home in Florida on August 11, 2025. She leaves behind her sister Velma Perry, sister-in-law Delores Lewis, daughters Roslyn and Rita, sons Raymond and Rudolph, daughter-in-law Judi, grandchildren Sharae, Bryton and Carrie, great-grandchild Alexander, and a very large family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Association (alz.org) in Vergie's name.
