Verlin Miller

MILLER, Verlin F., was born September 16, 1917 in Howard County Indiana to Isaac and Hazel Miller. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frieda J. and 3 remaining children, Marc F. Miller (Jackie), Joel C. Miller (Susan) and Christine Miller (Dawn). He was preceded in death by, Jon R. the second child of their marriage, sister Loris Brownell, and brother Lyle. Verlin was known by all as Jack. He entered the army on December 29th, 1941 and was deployed to the Southwest Pacific Campaign. There he received a gunshot to the right elbow in New Guinea fighting near Buna on December 24th, 1942. He was honorably discharged and received a Purple Heart Medal. Jack and Frieda were married April 1, 1944 in Indiana. They moved to Delray Beach, FL in 1959 and resided in Boynton Beach and Lantana subsequently. Jack enjoyed the outdoors and was an accurate marksman. Jack and Frieda enjoyed their retirement summers in Gainsboro, TN for 30 years and many 'park friends' in Lantana on View Street in the winter. Failing health moved them to Tampa, FL where he died peacefully under Hospice care on February 20th, 2013. The family will have private services and interment will be at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL. Contributions may be made to www.angelsfor veterans.com.
