Doris Magid Verkauf passed away peacefully and comfortably on March 25.
Doris was the first in her family of fourth-generation Tampans. A graduate of Plant High School, she was married to her husband Sam for seventy-two years. She was always an integral part of her family’s activities from serving as president of PTA to serving in school lunch lines and supporting school events while working beside her husband in their family business. She was also a welcomed attendee at every extracurricular activity that took place with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Doris was an outstanding member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom and was presented several awards and tributes for exemplary board and committee service and was president of the women’s auxiliary as well. She was the best loyal and lifelong friend, the best mom, the best grandmother, the best great-grandmother, the best wife, and the best patient of the best staff at Memorial Hospital who showed her unparalleled love and warmth. Friends and acquaintances of her entire family of every age admired her, loved her, and thrived on and celebrated her 105 years of of unlimited generosity, kindness, cheerfulness, strength, and her beautiful, well-groomed appearance always. Special Thanks are given to the staff of the Diplomat Condominiums who always treated Mrs. Verkauf with respect and warmth. Her family are especially grateful for the many, many years of loving fun and friendship that were shown her by her entire family of staff and patrons at Pach’s restaurant. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and Boruch Magid, husband Sam Verkauf, her sisters, Anna Gordon and Bertha Shorstein, and brother, Dr. Louis Magid. She is survived by her children, Dr. Byron Verkauf (Nancy), Sherry Verkauf Friedlander; grandchildren, Dana Friedlander (Evan Batoff), Bradley Verkauf, Erin Verkauf Barnes (Greg), and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily, Brett, Lily, Molly, and Matthew, loving nieces and nephews, and the Most Wonderful Caregivers whom anyone could have, Ms. Clara English, Ms. Barbara Weaver, Ms. Renee Boyd, and their loving families. Private interment will take place at the Old Rodeph Sholom Cemetery. There will be a Shiva held Tuesday, March 30th at 7pm in Congregation Rodeph Sholom's parking lot for the community. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Rodeph Sholom.
