Edward Philip Epstein

April 1, 1944 ~ July 26, 2020 (age 76)


Lt. Colonel Dr. Edward Philip Epstein, 76,  passed away on July 26, 2020. Beloved son, brother, father, husband, Dr. Epstein was born April 1, 1944, in Brooklyn, NY. Beginning at age 7, Dr. Epstein was proficient at many instruments, with a focus on Piano and Trumpet. He attended New Utrecht High School followed by Fairleigh Dickinson University at age 15, and then The New York College of Podiatric Medicine. During this time, he worked as a jazz musician during the 1950s, playing piano in bands that backed Sinatra, Streisand, Merman, Miles Davis, and others that would go on to stardom, as well as writing company musicals for Teleprompter, a company who was part of the CBS Orchestra as well as playing as part of The Arthur Godfrey Show Band. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Brooklyn Local 802 chapter.  Edward was active in the Civil Rights Movement of the 60's - joining marches, being beaten and arrested on bus boycotts. In 1968 he enlisted in the US Army Medical Corp, eventually earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel - serving in Vietnam, across the South Pacific and the continental United States. He was a member of the American Legion, Jewish War Veterans, and the Scottish Rite of Freemasons. His Podiatric Practice served the people of Bradford, PA, and the surrounding area for 30 years, where he is loved and missed by his patients, many of whom he would visit at home. He was the author of "Exploring Careers In Podiatry" and worked as a Podiatric Surgeon for what is now the Bradford Regional Medical Center.  He acted as the President of Temple Beth El for many years and was also a member of the Penn Hills Club and Bradford Club in Bradford, PA.  Edward is survived by his loving wife Dorene, son Oren and daughter Catherine, who will miss him deeply.
