EDELSON, Irving, age 91, lifelong resident of Tampa died Thursday, March 5, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Edelson served proudly in the US Army during WWII. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and later was a member of the Jefferson High Alumni Association and a charter member of their board. He received his Bachelors of Journalism from the University of Missouri and applied his talents in many institutions including professorship at Tulane University, as a professor and director of public education at the University of Tampa and was co-director with the publicity department at the University of Florida. After his academic career, he worked and eventually retired as a detention deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, received his real estate licence and practiced real estate and served on the Wellswood Civic Association as Vice President. He was a longtime and active member of Congregation Schaarai Zedek. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Lothian Edelson in 1997. Survivors include his beloved wife, Barbara Crusey-Edelson, son, Edward Edelson (Angie Edelson), daughters, Karen Feldman, Nona Edelson, Karla Edelson-Solomon (Mical Solomon), Kimberly Edelson-Esposito (Chuck Esposito) and Ruthie Edelson, grandchildren, Sean Chuplis, Megan Edelson, Jacob Feldman, Peter Ford, Lauryn Solomon, Haley Solomon, Eryn Solomon, Mykala McElreath, Bryce Solomon, Justin Solomon, Ashlyn Esposito and Aiden Esposito, six great grandchildren, his sister, Selma Donaway, step-sons, Darryl Barhorst, Tim Barhorst, Louie Steel, step-daughters, Marea Elswick, Patricia Hicherson, Ann Batty and Nikki Barhorst. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 9, 11:00 AM at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3303 West Swann Avenue, Tampa. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Assocoiation, alz.org or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Suncoast Chapter, 3505 E. Frontage Road #145, Tampa, FL 33607.
